Samsung Solve for Tomorrow Contest State Finalist
Hillcrest Middle School is a SC State Winner in the 10th annual Samsung Solve for Tomorrow Contest, a $3 million nationwide competition that encourages 6th -12th grade students to creatively use STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) skills to solve a community challenge. From a pool of more than 2,000 entries nationwide, only 100 schools have been selected as a State Winner, and Hillcrest Middle School was one of them!
Hillcrest was chosen based on the creative proposal submitted by their STEM Team, Mr. Phillips, Mr. Easley, Ms. Godwin, and Ms. Conley, to address the increase in SC teen suicide rates using STEM learning in the classroom and in the STEM Club. As a SC State Winner, Hillcrest will receive $15,000 in technology and classroom materials as well as a video kit to help showcase the project for the STEM students. Hillcrest has the opportunity to advance through future phases of the contest to win additional prizes.
